Spring 2006
In 2006 ILSA was very proud to have the opportunity to host the LEO Banquet. In addition to planning the LEO Banquet this year, the Indigenous Law Students Association has had a very busy year. We began the year by doing several fundraisers, including a "Blind Bucky" apparel sale. ILSA also co-sponsored several films and held an Indian Taco sale during Native American History Month.

This year, ILSA was able to send two teams to compete in the National Native American Law Students Association Moot Court Competition in Seattle, Washington. Andrew Adams III, Zeke Fletcher, Adriana Peguero, and Isela Arellano were great representatives of ILSA and the Wisconsin Law School. We would like to thank Professors Carin Clauss and Richard Monette for their support and their help preparing our teams to compete.

ILSA was also excited to put together the 20th Annual Coming Together of Peoples Indian Law Conference on March 24-25. We hosted panels on Indian Business, Tax, Education, Alternative Power Development, and the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). We had a great weekend and were happy to celebrate twenty years of this important conference at the Wisconsin Law School

ILSA is very proud to have two of our members on the National Native American Law Students Association Executive Board. Andrew Adams III serves as Treasurer and Zeke Fletcher is the Area 4 Representative. Andrew and Zeke have done a great job representing the Wisconsin Law School and ILSA on a national level.

ILSA was also able to send a number of students to the 31st Annual Federal Bar Association Indian Law Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This was a great opportunity for our students to meet Indian Law practitioners and students from around the country.

Adriana Peguero, President (2006)

Spring 2004
The Indigenous Law Students Association has been extremely busy this year. In November, ILSA sent recruiters to two conferences: The National Indian Education Association (NIEA) and the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES). The recruiters, along with UW-Law Professor Richard Monette, discussed the advantages and prestige of UW Law School with hundreds of students. Sunshine Lemieux, Vice President of Recruiting, followed up individually with each student. From this process, we received over 30 applicants for Fall 2004 Admissions Process! November is also Native American Month at the University of Wisconsin campus, and ILSA participated and co-hosted many events with undergraduate student groups like Wunk Sheek and the American Indian Science and Engineering Society, as well as the American Indian Studies Program (AISP).

Our fall fundraiser was very successful! We sold high quality UW Law School adult and children's apparel, computer bags, and travel mugs; it was our best year yet. Thank you for your support!

In February, ILSA sent a team to compete in National Native American Student Association (NNALSA) Annual Moot Court Competition in Denver, Colorado. The competitors were Sarah Lawson and Amanda Rockman. We would like to thank the moot court coach, Lisa Evans for her guidance. We would also like to thank local professors and practitioners for their guidance and expertise; Thank you Professor Richard Monette, Professor Karin Clauss, Attorney Alysia LaCounte, Attorney Carol Brown, and Attorney Dawn Sturdevant Baum.

In April, ILSA will be hosting our annual "Coming Together of Peoples" conference. The conference is a series of lectures and discussions about Native American legal affairs. The ultimate goal of the ILSA Conference is to enrich and improve the cultural climate of the University of Wisconsin for all students. By inviting nationally recognized speakers, the conference offers an educational experience in the field of Indian law including Indian sovereignty, gaming, jurisdiction, and business as well as cultural experience. Our intention is to help make the greater society increasingly aware of the controversial issues in Indian country; while celebrating the progressions made in the last century. Please go to the conference link on our home page for more information.

In April, ILSA will be sending members to the 29 th Annual Federal Indian Bar Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The 2004 Conference, entitled, The Role of Indian Tribes in Modern American Society , will provide an introduction and in-depth discussions on the vast areas of influence now being exercised by Indian Tribes. We hope to see you there!

Amanda Rockman, Co-President (2004)
Sarah Lawson, Co-President (2004)
