Moot Court

The University of Wisconsin Law School Moot Court Board is pleased to announce that the Sixteenth Annual Evan A. Evans Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition will be held on March 26-28, 2010 in Madison, Wisconsin.

About the Competition

This three-day competition is open to all ABA-accredited law schools throughout the United States, and will focus on a question of Constitutional law.

Each school may enter one or two teams. (Note: we are limiting registration of schools registering two teams to the first ten such schools.  Additional schools wishing to register two teams will be immediately notified and will have the option of withdrawing registration altogether or wait-listing their second team.) Each team must consist of two law students, and each team member must participate in writing a brief prior to the competition, and presenting oral argument at the competition. Schools sending one team will randomly be assigned to write their brief on behalf of the petitioner or the respondent. Schools sending two teams will brief both sides.

Oral arguments will begin on Friday afternoon, March 26, and conclude on Sunday afternoon, March 28.  Participants will argue in three preliminary rounds: two on Friday afternoon, and one on Saturday morning.  Each team will argue "on-brief" and "off-brief" in their first two preliminary rounds, and randomly be assigned to argue "on-brief" or "off-brief" for their third preliminary round.

The preliminary and semifinal rounds will be held at the Dane County Circuit Courthouse at 215 South Hamilton Street. The final round will be held at the Wisconsin Supreme Court in the State Capitol Building at Two East Main Street. Panels are composed of experienced trial attorneys and judges from state and federal court.
