We firmly believe that becoming involved with a student organization involves more than just showing up at a meeting or lecture while you eat pizza, surf the web, and listen to others talk. Listed below are some of the ways you can become involved with WILS in 2007-2008. However, as International Law encompasses a broad spectrum, we realize that not everyone will have the same interests. This year, we are committed to providing something for everyone. If you have any other ideas or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us. If you are interested in attending a Board meeting and voicing your opinions, contact Sophy.
Committees
Fundraising
WILS activities, scholarships, speaker series, food, etc., cost money. SBA funds don't cover everything, and so the more money we can raise, the more we can do. If you're interested in helping out in this endeavor, please contact Margaret. We promise that any event we put on will be fun and will involve the entire law school community!Human Rights Clinic
We have some fantastic clinicals here at UW with a focus on helping out Wisconsin citizens who would otherwise not have access to legal representation. WILS believes that we should expand this law-in-action approach to an international community. Contact Melanie for more info.WILS Symposium
We are planning to put together a symposium to be held this upcoming Spring. We would like to invite speakers from all over the globe to come speak during a specified period. If you would like to help us research speakers, write letters, and plan, please contact Jennifer.
Film Nights
Everyone needs a study break every now and then. Law students like watching movies, and we're the Wisconsin International Law Society. Therefore, we figured that we could watch international movies together. If you have any film suggestions, contact Steve. Films don't necessarily have to be law-related.
Stateside Chats
Stateside Chats are an opportunity for students to informally meet with professors over coffee to discuss current events in the International scene. The idea is to facilitate discussions and to build relationships. Check our events calendar or watch for announcements for the next Stateside Chat. If there is a particular topic you'd like to discuss or a specific professor you'd like to chat with, please contact Jennifer.
This & That
There are other projects that we need help with as well. If you've got artistic skills, you can help us with our website, bulletin board (near the 3L hang files), and/or email newsletter.
