Christian Legal Society (CLS) is a faith community. Our goal is to help students maintain and grow their faith while balancing their pursuit of practicing law.
We believe in serving our community, both in law school and in the city of Madison.

This Thursday is the Semester’s last CLS Bible Study.
At this meeting, Senior Officers/Board Members will be selected.
Please come, even if you do not have an interest in serving on the board, to provide feedback and thoughts about planning for next year.

Once the fall meeting day/time has been selected, the website will be updated and an announcement will be made sent via our listserve.
Every Tuesday, Will Ackell hosts a CLS men’s prayer group.
It’s a great out opportunity to hang out and prayer together.

Christian Legal Society’s Spring Kickoff Bible Study

for pizza and a Bible study
from 12:25-1:00pm.

Due to final exams approaching, and the availability of study rooms, the weekly Bible studies have concluded for the fall semester. The Bible study will begin in January, with the start of the spring semester.
Look for an email in early January announcing the times and room for next semester’s Bible study.

Each year, CLS members gather to celebrate the Christmas holiday with a trip to the amazing concert at the Overture Center for the Arts.

CLS Guest Speaker: Attorney Taqwanya Smith

CLS is happy to welcome back CLS Alumni Taqwanya Smith (Class of 1999). Attorney Smith will be discussing her career, and growing in maintaining faith while in law school and throughout your legal career.
Attorney Smith is a Senior Policy Analyst for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. She works to ensure that the Department meets federal civil rights requirements in highway projects, public facilities and public services.
Prior to her career with the Department of Transportation, she worked for the State Public Defender’s Office, as well as a non-profit called Community Adolescent Programs. Additionally, she has worked with such commissions as the Commission on Reducing Racial Disparities in the Wisconsin Criminal Justice System, Traffic Stop Data Collection Advisory Committee (Racial Profiling), and the Council on Offender Reentry.

The CLS National Conference will be held in Chicago, IL this year from October 20th to October 23rd. This will be the 50th anniversary of the CLS National Conference.

Calling all book owners!
Christian Legal Society is holding a book drive for the women’s minimum security prison in Waupun. Books needed include:
Fiction and Nonfiction
Religious and Nonreligious
Mystery and true life
Please exclude textbooks, books in poor shape, and blatantly inappropriate subject matter.
CLS will have a table in the atrium to collect books on the following dates and times:
Wednesday- 9/7 from 1:00-2:00
Thursday- 9/8 from 12:00-2:00
Thursday- 9/15 from 12:00-2:00
Tuesday- 9/20 from 11:00-12:00
If you would like to donate but can’t during these times, please contact us.
