Next year’s symposium will be held on April 4-5, 2014 at the University of Wisconsin Law School on the theme “Creation of International Law: Exploring the International Law Components of Peace.” WILJ will co-sponsor the symposium with the network of women scholars in international law.


The symposium seeks to continue and expand the network of women scholars and practitioners that was launched in 2009 in Norway to support their engagement in public international law.  Selected papers presented at the inaugural conference was published as an edited volume in 2010 by the Cambridge University Press.

Keynote Speakers

Professor Christine Chinkin has accepted our invitation to be one of the keynote speakers. Professor Hilary Charlesworth will send a pre-recorded message.


The deadline for submission of abstracts is October 1, 2013. Scholars whose abstracts are selected for the symposium will be notified by November 1, 2013.  Complete papers from those selected are due on

March 1, 2014. Please email your abstracts of not more than 500 words including your institutional affiliation and contact details to Cecilia Bailliet and Sumudu Atapattu by the deadline.
