Stop the Silence – CALL TO ACTION
Posted in Uncategorized on November 8th, 2010 by jason-foster – Comments OffThe LGBT Campus Center and UW Housing are creating a Make it Better video to show the impact of bullying, harassment and homophobia on the LGBTQ community and how to work toward “Making it Better.”
WE NEED YOUR HELP! It is time for ACTION!
Here’s the plan:
A) Meet at the top of Bascom Hill at NOON on Wednesday, November 10th. (Rain location – Memorial Union Theater.)
B) Get filmed while representing statistics that show how LGBTQ people are affected by bullying and homophobia (example: more than half of all LGBT identified people hide their sexual orientation or gender identity to avoid intimidation—half the students walk out of the shot).
C) Disperse with a sense of accomplishment.
The more people the more the impact. (We are hoping for hundreds.) PLEASE come!
This will not take long (15-20 min.). Show up, join the crowd and be filmed.
For Students: Please tell all of your friends to join this (even if you can’t).
For Staff: Please ask colleagues in your department to join this (even if you can’t).
For Faculty: Please encourage your students to attend this (even more so if you have a class ending at 11:50 a.m.).
For Faculty Chairs: Please send this to faculty in your department.
For Community Members: Please tell others in your organization or people you know to join in.
Help us Stop the Silence and take a stand against homophobia.

October General Meeting

Agenda Items:
Elections for 1L Reps and Secretary positions; viewing of A Jihad for Love.
QLaw will elect two 1L Representatives and a Secretary. If you are interested in running for one of these positions (1L Rep is reserved for first year students, but the Secretary may be elected from any of the general membership), please send an email expressing your interest to qlaw@qlaw.org by end of day today.
QLaw will also present a viewing of A Jihad for Love [ http://www.ajihadforlove.com ], a documentary that explores the intersection of Islam and homosexuality.
Ga(y)me Night!

First, from 7-9 p.m., please join QLaw for a social at the Union Terrace (if weather does not permit, we will be indoors at the Rathskeller).
Second, QLaw is hosting Bar Review at the Shamrock, located at 117 West Main Street (just off the south corner of the Capitol Square). Please encourage all of your friends to attend, as this is a great opportunity to highlight the Year of Allies. We hope to see you there!
